When creating or editing a HOLAP semantic model, you can specify which dimension levels, attributes, or measures are not to be materialized.
Use properties to specify the materialize setting. By default, Materialize is set to Yes.
For example, you may want to leave high cardinality levels as non-materialized in a hierarchy. Let's look at a specific example.
In a CUSTOMER dimension hierarchy where the customer_id has a very high cardinality, you can select to aggregate at the COUNTRY -- STATE -- CITY level, but when someone wants to drill to an actual customer ID, the query can be delegated to an external SQL engine.
If this property is not available, this semantic model may not support non-materialized data. See Working with partially materialized semantic models for details.

If you set the Materialize property to No for any column, it is highlighted in yellow.
