Filtering data in dashboards

You can apply a global filter that applies to the entire dashboard.

To add a global filter to a dashboard

  1. From the Toolbox, select Workbooks, then select a workbook and dashboard.

  2. Click Add Card at the top of the panel and choose Filter card.

  3. In the Filter pane, click Field, and navigate the dimensions to select an item.

  4. The criteria are populated based on the field you select. Click it to select different criteria.

  5. Click Value.

  6. Do the following to select one or more specific values to filter on using is in the list or is not in the list criteria:

    1. For a Predefined list, type into the search box to quickly find values.

      1. Click to select from the values shown or scroll to find a value.

      2. Click Select All to select all values. 

      3. Click Select All, then deselect items you want to leave out of the search.

    2. For Custom List, click Custom List, enter a list of comma separated values, then press Enter or click Select.

This filter becomes a global filter for the charts in the dashboard.

If you are using a floating layout and don't see the filter card after adding it, change the layout to flexible, and then change the layout back to floating.

To exclude any cards from the global filter

  1. Click the Actions menu ( â‹® ) in the upper right corner of the filter card and choose Link Cards.

  2. Uncheck the cards that you don't want to use the global filter.

  3. Click Apply.

You can also place a group card at the top of the dashboard to act as a global filter. See Grouping cards in a dashboard.

Filter indicators

The following screenshot shows filtered cards where the data fits and does not fit in the card. You can see:

  • A filter applied (the F icon)

  • The indicator at the top of the chart that highlights the portion of the data is shown in the card

  • The square icon that switches the card view to show all of the data (instead of the selected data at the top of the chart)

When you click the square icon, you'll see the chart change to show all data. 

The i icon on cards shows information about that card, including the filter details (if applied) and the semantic model on which it's based.
