Adding an action filter

Add an action filter that can filter data from different semantic models. The level, attribute, or measure name must be the same in the different semantic models where you want to apply a global action filter. Not all names need to be the same, just those you want to use to apply a filter.

Note

If you are filtering on a time dimension, the date hierarchy must be the same in all of the semantic models.

To add an action filter, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Toolbox, select Workbooks, then select a workbook and dashboard.

  2. Click Add Card at the top of the panel and choose the Filter card.

  3. Select a semantic model as a data source for the filter, then click Add.

  4. Click the title area of the card, then click the ( ⋮ ) menu in the upper right corner of the card and choose Link Cards.

  5. Select the cards to be updated by this filter.

  6. Click Apply.

Filter indicators

The following screenshot shows filtered cards where the data fits and does not fit in the card. You can see:

  • A filter is applied, the 'F' icon is displayed on the title of the card.

  • The indicator (appears in grey on the second image) at the top of the chart that highlights the portion of the data is shown in the card.

  • The square icon that switches the card view to show all of the data (instead of the selected data at the top of the chart)

When you click the square icon, you'll see the chart change to show all data.

The i icon on cards shows information about that card, including the filter details (if applied) and the semantic model on which it's based.
