Important

From Kyvos 2023.3 onwards, when you apply a sort field to a column, it will now sort the default visualization of that level or attribute. This change applies even to third-party BI tools. Ensure that alphabetical sorting using the sort field is not supported. If you use alphabetical sorting with the sort field, only the alphabetical order will be applied, and the sort field will be disregarded.

The sort field will be applied to all types of hierarchies, including normal hierarchy, time-type hierarchy, parent-child hierarchy, multiple hierarchies, alternate paths, Custom rollup dimension, and so on.

There are several ways to sort data in a chart:

  • Sort by size

  • Toggle between ascending or descending alphabetic or numeric order

  • Sort by TopN

To sort values in a chart by size, perform the following steps:

  1. From the Toolbox, select Workbooks, then select a workbook and worksheet.

  2. Select Design if needed.

  3. Right-click one of the values in the chart and choose Quick Sort.

  4. To toggle between ascending and descending order, right-click and choose Quick Sort again.

Sorting by dimensions or measures

You can also sort by dimensions or measures.

To sort data within an axis, perform the following steps:

  1. From the Toolbox, select Workbooks, then select a workbook and worksheet.

  2. Select Design if needed.

  3. Click the X-axis or Y-axis list and right-click a measure or dimension to see the Sort command.

  4. Click Sort.

  5. Choose the sort direction: ascending or descending.

  6. Choose to sort alphabetically, within the hierarchy, or by measure. If you choose Measure, select a measure from the list.

  7. Click Sort.

To sort a dimension in detail, perform the following steps:

  1. From the Toolbox, choose Workbooks, then select a workbook and worksheet that use details such as a scatter chart, wordmap, or treemap.

  2. Select Design if needed.

  3. Right-click the dimension and choose Sort or TopN.

  4. When you choose Sort, choose to sort alphabetically, within the hierarchy, or by measure.
If you choose Measure, select a measure from the list.

    1. Select the sort direction: ascending or descending.

    2. Click Sort.
When you select TopN, create your condition.

      1. Select either is at the top or is at bottom.

      2. Specify the number of top or bottom values.

See Filtering using TopN or BottomN for more detail.
