To see the semantic model properties, open a semantic model and click the Refine tab at the top of the window. The properties are displayed in the Advanced Properties tab. Any errors are easily visible, and you can click the group to see the details.

The recommended semantic model properties are based on the semantic model design, and they vary based on the dimensions used.

Kyvos specifies the following modes for properties:

  • Default: Kyvos recommends which property value to use. Any change in semantic model design may cause the property value to be updated based on recommendations.

  • Inherited: Property value is read from the system or connection level.

  • Modified: Property value is provided by you. This is the default mode for all user-defined properties.

To learn about individual properties, see the advanced properties on the Kyvos portal.

A dialog box suggesting semantic model recommendations may display when you first open a semantic model. You can use it to optimize the semantic model design. These recommendations include semantic model properties. If you accept the recommendations, you will change the semantic model properties associated with the semantic model. See Semantic model recommendations to learn more.

Groups

Properties are organized into groups. Click the group name in the right pane to expand that group. You can also click the arrow icon next to the group name to expand or collapse it.

You can also click Expand All or Collapse All at the bottom of the pane to expand or collapse all groups.

Show descriptions

  • You can click the Show Description button at the bottom of the page to show descriptions of all currently expanded groups. Click Hide Description to hide all descriptions of currently expanded groups.

  • You can also click the information icon (i icon) to the right of any property to show the description for that property. Click it again to hide it.

Default, Inherited, and Modified value indicators

The visual indicators let you know if a property is using a default or modified value or if it has been inherited. You can also filter based on these values to see only selected properties.

Inherited properties may come from the connection or from other dependent entities, for example, MapReduce.

Dependencies

If a property has dependent properties, then a link indicating the number of dependencies found is displayed to the right of that property name, and you can view the dependent properties by clicking that link. Click the arrow near the top of the column to return to the previous view.

View or set properties

You can view or set semantic model properties.

To view the semantic model properties, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Toolbox, click Semantic Models.

  2. Search for and open a semantic model.

  3. Click the Refine tab.

  4. Click Advanced Properties.

  5. Expand the group names to see the properties in that group.

  6. Click Search to type property names and quickly find values.

  7. Click the i icon or click Show Description to see the description. Click Hide Description or the i icon again to hide it when done.

  8. If a property has dependent properties, click the link to view them.

  9. If a property has an Actions menu (...) in the Value column, click the Actions menu (...) to view the details.

You must have permission to set semantic model properties. If you don't have permission, you won't be able to edit a property.

In the following cases, you will see a notification:

  • If you try to add a property that depends on another property that is not set

  • If you edit a property value that will affect another property

To set the semantic model properties, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Toolbox, click Semantic Models.

  2. Search for and open a semantic model.

  3. Click the Refine tab.

  4. Expand the group names to see the properties in that group.
You can also click a group name in the left column to expand that group.

  5. Click Search to type property names and quickly find values.

  6. Click a property Value to edit it. Then do one of the following depending on the type of value:

    1. Type a new value.

    2. Select from a list such as true or false.

    3. Click the Actions menu (...) next to the value and make a selection from the dialog box.

  7. Click the i icon or click Show Description to see the description. Click Hide Description to hide it when done.

  8. Use the Actions menu (  ) next to the i symbol to specify whether to use the default, inherited, or modified properties.

  9. Click Save.

Warning

If you have Ranger deployed in your AWS environment, then you MUST apply the following properties:
kyvos.build.execution.engine=SPARK
kyvos.indexing.execution.engine=SPARK

To add new semantic model properties, perform the following steps.

  1. Click Add Property, then enter a new property name and value pair and click Add.

  2. Click the minus icon next to the properties you have added to delete them.

  3. Click the i icon or click Show Description to see the description. Click Hide Description to hide it when done.

  4. Use the Actions menu (  ) next to the i symbol to specify whether to use the default, inherited, or modified properties.

  5. Click Save.

Warning
If you have Ranger deployed in your AWS environment, then you MUST add the following property:
kyvos.connection.fileSystemApi=HADOOP

The new property is added to the Miscellaneous group. To remove a property you added, click the minus icon to the far right of its name.

You can also set properties for the measures and dimensions contained within a semantic model when you are designing it.

To set properties for measures and dimensions, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Toolbox, choose Semantic Models and select a semantic model.

  2. By default, when you first open a semantic model, the semantic model properties display in the right pane.

  3. Click dimensions, measures, levels, or other elements of the semantic model to display and set the properties for that item.

Filtering properties

You can filter based on the default, inherited, or modified values to see only selected properties.

To filter properties, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Toolbox, click Semantic Models.

  2. Search for and select a semantic model.

  3. Click Refine.

  4. Select a group and expand the category of properties you want to view.

  5. Click Value at the top of the column and select the values to filter by.

  6. Click the X next to a filter value to remove that filter.
