To create the Kyvos Semantic Layer in Power BI, perform the following steps.

  1. Connect the semantic model to Power BI Desktop using Spark SQL connection.
  2. Click the Model icon and expand the table that has been added to the application using this SQL connection.

You will see the list of dimensions and measures in the table, as shown in the following figure.
  3. Go to the Kyvos Web portal and open the same semantic model, which is connected to the Power BI. Click and verify the dimensions and measures in the semantic model.

  4. Go to Power BI, and click any element in which you want to create a hierarchy. Click the three dots alongside the element name or right-click the element and choose the Create hierarchy option. A hierarchy is created with the selected element's name.
  5. You can rename the hierarchy as needed. For this, double-click the hierarchy’s name and edit it as you want.

  6. To create the levels in a hierarchy, right-click any other element you want to add, and choose the Add to hierarchy option.
  7.  You will see the list of existing hierarchies. Choose the hierarchy to which you want to add the element.

  8. The elements added to hierarchies need to be hidden. For this, you can either mark the Is hidden as Yes from the Properties.

Alternatively, click the hide icon corresponding to the name of the element.

  9. Click any hierarchy, write the folder name in the Display folder field, and press Enter. The hierarchy is added to the folder.

  10. To add attributes in the folder, click any element you want to add as an attribute and write the folder name (where you want to add the attribute) in the Display folder field in Properties and press Enter.

  11. Select an element or multiple elements and give the folder name in the Display folder field in Properties. This adds the measures to the folder.

  12. Measures can be further added to a folder. Select any element you want to add to a measures folder, enter the same folder name in the Display folder field, and press Enter.

  13. Repeat the steps until you get the cube's final representation in the Power BI report.
