A dashboard shows you a summary view of your data at the moment you are viewing it. When you view the dashboard after the source data has been updated, the dashboard reflects those changes.

When you save a dashboard, you save the layout of the cards. You can shrink cards that contain no data, however, don't make design changes like adding cards, resizing cards, and so on in the dashboard layout when some cards may be hidden due to currently having no data available.

Creating dashboards

To create a dashboard, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Toolbox, click Workbooks, then select a workbook.

  2. Click Add at the top of the workspace and choose Dashboard.

  3. Click the checkboxes next to the worksheets you want to use. Or choose to Select All.
You can also click Search and type to quickly find a worksheet.

  4. Specify whether to show the legend, title or maximize option.

  5. Click the checkbox to fix the widget position so it will not scroll with the page, make the background transparent, and hide the scrollbar.
Click the i icon to learn more.

  6. Enter a value in pixels to set the inner margin for the cards. Use the dotted square to specify the inner margin for all four sides.

  7. Under CSS selectors, you can use the default value or enter a custom ID and class.

  8. Click Add.

  9. By default, the charts from the selected worksheet are added as widgets to the dashboard. Default sizing is selected according to the chart type.

  10. Right-click the default dashboard name and choose Rename.

  11. Enter a new name, then click Rename.

  12. Click Save.

Note

If there is an error in rendering data or any other warning on the card, you will see an alert icon in both the Design and View modes.

Rearranging cards

Note

After creating the dashboard, you can drag the cards in the order you want them to display. You will see card boundaries and perimeters while designing and rearranging the layout. This gives you an estimate of the space it will take on the dashboard.

You can also drag the cards in the dashboard into a different arrangement or click the (  ) Actions menu in the upper right corner of each card to choose additional options. If you can't drag the cards, click ... and choose Properties and change the layout to Fixed, Flexible, or Floating. When you choose floating, you can overlay a widget card over other ones.

To rearrange the elements on a dashboard, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Toolbox, select Workbooks, then select a workbook and dashboard.

  2. Drag to change the order of the cards in the dashboard.

  3. When you are using the floating layout, you can click the (  ) Actions menu in the upper right corner of each card and select the Bring to the front or Send to the back option.

  4. Click Save.

Properties

You can set properties that set behaviors for the entire dashboard.

To set dashboard properties, perform the following steps.

  1. After you create the card, click Properties.

  2. Choose Fixed, Flexible, or Floating to specify the layout of the worksheets on the dashboard.

  3. Select a Theme from the list or None.

  4. Select a Background Color if you want to use a custom color other than that loaded from the theme.

  5. Select a Color Palette for the dashboard charts.

  6. Select a Widget Loader style from any of the two options. The selected icon will be displayed while Kyvos fetches data from the server.

  7. Set the Margin for the dashboard card. You can also specify different margin values for all four sides using the dotted square option.

  8. Specify the Widget Gap and Widget Shadow values using the sliders or entering a value in pixels.

  9. Specify whether to shrink cards that have no data by clicking the Shrink widgets in case of no data checkbox. It is not recommended to make design changes like adding cards, repositioning cards, or resizing cards in the dashboard layout if some cards are shrunk due to no data condition.

  10. Click X at the top of the panel to close the Dashboard Properties pane.

To view descriptions of dimensions and measures

If you added descriptions to dimensions and measures while designing a semantic model, you can view those descriptions by hovering the cursor over the dimension or measure that you are using in a dashboard or a filter used in a dashboard.

To view the last semantic model process time

To see the last process time of the semantic model, which is used for creating the worksheets and dashboards, click the i icon on the card/widget.

To report an issue, perform the following steps.
