Create partitions

You can create partitions with or without implementing a sliding window.

To quickly create a partition, perform the following steps: 

1. From the Toolbox area select Semantic Models.

2. Select a semantic model with the date and time dimension data, click the Refine tab, and click the Partition Strategy tab.

3. Click Recommend me to view a recommended strategy including base and sub partitions, recommendation details, and reasons.

4. Click the radio buttons to switch between the current and recommended strategy for comparison. At a glance, you can see what will be added, modified, moved, or deleted. 

5. Click Accept.

To create a partition, perform the following steps. 

1. From the Toolbox area select Semantic Models.

2. Select a semantic model with time data and click the Partition Strategy tab.

3. For Base Partition On, browse the data and select the available time-based options.
   Optionally, click Add Sub Partitions to set up sub partitions.
   Once you create sub partitions, this option changes to Edit Sub Partitions.

   1. Click the list box and browse to select the sub partition you want to add.

   2. Click the plus button to add an additional sub partition.

   3. Click Add.

4. To use the partition with a sliding window, click Enable sliding window and specify to keep data for a specific number of partitions.

5. Click Save.
